Abstract

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is an area that many developing countries are paying close attention to the field. This is because STEM is believed to boost economic growth. In Malaysia, the 60:40 (STEM: Non STEM) policy has been implemented to increase the number of students involved in this field. Therefore, various activities and programs are conducted by the school to increase student interest in STEM. However, there are activities and programs that cannot be implemented smoothly. Therefore, this study aims to identify the risk factors that exist during the implementation of STEM education in schools. This study used a fuzzy delphi approach involving 20 experts from different fields. A total of 12 items were developed with the consent of 8 interviewees. The items using 5 Likert scales were given to the experts for analysis. The findings show that 11 items have reached expert consensus. Experts also agree that the risks inherent in implementing STEM education in schools are financial and time consuming. Implications of this study will guide schools and especially administrators to identify early actions to minimize risks when implementing any activities and programs.
