Malaysia’s globally recognized leadership in the halal tourism sector is anchored in its rich cultural heritage, strategic policy frameworks and a well-established halal ecosystem. However, maintaining this competitive advantage requires more than physical infrastructure and regulatory readiness. It necessitates the cultivation of a highly competent workforce that is not only well-versed in hospitality operations but also deeply grounded in Shariah-compliant service principles. This study employs a SWOT analysis to critically assess the current landscape of Muslim-friendly hospitality education in Malaysia. The findings reveal key institutional strengths and opportunities, while also exposing significant pedagogical gaps and structural limitations that hinder the sector’s human capital development. In response, this paper advocates for the development of a comprehensive, nationally recognized curriculum that seamlessly integrates Islamic ethical values with international hospitality standards. Such an initiative is vital to reinforcing Malaysia’s ambition to position itself as a global hub for halal tourism talent and thought leadership.
