MODUL PENGAJARAN DAN PEMBELAJARAN TEMATIK UNTUK MENANGANI MASALAH PEMBELAJARAN MURID-MURID TERCICIR DI SEKOLAH BIMBINGAN JALINAN KASIH

Abstract

Pupils of the Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK) are made up of children who were left behind formal education due to poverty, do not have any official identification documents orhave adaptation problems in normal schools. When the school was founded, most of itspupils lacked the basic skills of reading, writing and counting even though they have reached age 17. Thus a Thematic Learning Module was developed to assist the teachers to teach pupilsfrom these various background. A qualitative research was conducted to access the use of the module among the school teachers. Data was collected through classroom observations, open ended survey and document analysis. The teachers responded that the thematic teaching methodfacilitateteaching and learning (T&L) sessions efficiently using the themes suggested. Through themes, they found it easier to deliver content, select activities and T&L resources and to assess the pupils. The teachers stated that pupils are more interested in the lesson, involved, confident, happy and motivated to learn in a “funlearning†concept. The analysis of classroom observation and teaching documents shows that the teachers need to be given further guidance and training to teach and document their lessonplanand assessment. It is hoped that teachers will be able to administer and implement future thematic T&L using themes that they decide by themselves by referring to the Standard Curriculum.
