Although written selectIon policies for libraries are not universal, the process of selection In academic libraries Is now for more likely to be based on written policies than It was before. The selection process should accomplish the objective of assuring that the materials appropriate to the needs of the Institution are acquired. The Ideal situation Involves both librarians and academic staff. The selection policy of the Institute of Advanced Studies, University of Malaya, Is set out.
