Abstract

In an increasingly digitalized society, younger generations face growing challenges in sustaining cultural identity, making the preservation of intangible cultural heritage a pressing issue. This study investigates Hakka cultural heritage in southern Jiangxi, focusing on traditions, festivals, and cultural practices central to community identity. Employing a mixed- methods design that integrates expert interviews, questionnaire surveys and applies thematic analysis to identify key cultural elements critical for heritage transmission among Generation Z. The findings indicate that rapid technological change and the inherent complexity of intangible heritage create significant challenges, including high costs, limited resources, and risks of digital obsolescence. The thematic analysis of festivities and cultural artistry highlights recurring patterns that are essential to the cultural identity of the Hakka community. These qualitative findings are reinforced by quantitative results, which show strong demand among Generation Z for cultural education, participation, and digitally mediated approaches to heritage preservation. Expert insights further highlight the potential of immersive technologies in enhancing cultural transmission. The implication of this research extend beyond southern Jiangxi, offering insights into how digitalization can be harnessed to preserve culture heritage globally.
