The halal hotel industry is expanding rapidly on a global scale, particularly in Muslim-majority countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, which are among the leading destinations for Islamic tourism. This study aims to examine the future of the halal hotel industry by focusing on the challenges and opportunities faced by both countries. A qualitative approach was employed, using thematic analysis based on an extensive review of literature and policy documents related to halal tourism, certification, and consumer trends. The findings identify key challenges such as the lack of standardized halal certification, high compliance costs, and varying levels of awareness and perceptions among consumers regarding halal hotel concepts. Nevertheless, significant opportunities are emerging, including the growing demand from global Muslim travelers, strong governmental support, and the integration of innovative technologies in Shariah-compliant hospitality services. This study is expected to provide valuable insights for policymakers, certification bodies, and hotel operators in formulating strategies to develop a more competitive, sustainable, and Maqasid Shariah-aligned halal hotel industry.
