Publishing Ethics

Rights of Participants - Physical and Psychological or Mental Harm

In a research study, the researcher is responsible for ensuring the safety of his respondents. He must protect the respondents from any negative effects or any physical or mental harm during the research process. It is the ethical responsibility of the researcher to seriously and honestly evaluate the negative effects that may occur from participation in the research activities designed by him. He must be able to gauge the potential of harm occurring and truthfully inform his respondents of the risks they may encounter even though they may decide to withdraw from the study.

Hence, when the research involves human participants, the author should ensure that the reserach has been carried out in accordance with the code of ethics for research involving humans. Authors should include a statement in the manuscript that informed consent was obtained for experimentation with human participants.

Declaration of personal/organisational interest

Authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could biasly influence their research.

Authors must disclose a summary declaration of interest statement for potential conflicts of interest including employment, consultancies, ownership, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, grants or other funding.

The corresponding author must write a statement of Declaration of Interest in the Title Page to the editor, which is part of the journal's official records. The statement of declarations of interests either yes or no personal/organisational interest.

Submission declaration and verification

A manuscript submitted to the journal must be original where it has not been published previously, and it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors.

If the manuscript is accepted, it can not be published elsewhere in the same form, in any other language, including electronically without the written consent of the journal publisher. Originality of the manuscript can be checked by the Crossref Similarity Check or Turnitin.

Plagiarism

It is wrong to use other researchers’ work without written permission or without clearly acknowledging the source. All research results must be collected from one’s own study and not copied from the work of other researchers. Any reference to previous research in the form of text or illustration must be cited with the researcher’s name, year of research and listed in the reference section. Turnitin can be used to trace whether a written work is genuine or plagiarized from other’s writing.

Thus the author should include a statement of declaration that the manuscript is free of plagiarism in the cover letter to the author.

Changes to authorship

Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of authors before submitting their manuscript. Any addition, deletion or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list should be made only before the manuscript has been accepted.

No changes of authors are allowed after the manuscript has already been published in a journal issue.

Copyright

Upon acceptance of a manuscript, the author must complete a Publishing Agreement of the publisher, the Institute of Educational Leadership. Permission of the Publisher is required for sale or distribution, including translation of the article.

Funding organization/grant

For a manuscript that is funded by an organisation/grant body, a statement of funding organization/grant should be included at the end of the manuscript.
