Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

1.Prospective contribution must be written using Bahasa Melayu, Arabic Language, or British English and should be of interest to a broad readership. Articles should be between 4,000 to 8,000 words. The suitability of the length of articles is dependent on the subject matter and focus. Tables and figures should be clearly labeled.

2. Submitted articles must be original work. Articles that have been published elsewhere or are being considered for publication by other journals of publication would not be considered. However, articles accepted in conference proceedings that have been revised, updated, and extended may be considered for review.

3.References should be focused on the most pertinent, and up-to-date sources. In matters of grammar and usage, AL-FALAH refers to the (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Seventh Edition (2020). Refer to https://www.scribbr.com/apa-style/format/

4.It is the responsibility of the author(s) to ensure that the Bahasa Melayu, Arabic Language or English used has been thoroughly checked to ensure that there is no grammatical or spelling error. Authors who wish to refine the use of Bahasa Melayu, Arabic Language, or English in their manuscripts may like to consider engaging in professional editing services. Any costs incurred in engaging such services are the sole responsibility of the author(s).

5.Manuscripts should be submitted by e-mail in MS Word Document format to alfalah@um.edu.my. Please specify that the manuscript is being submitted to JIES. Names and contact information for the author(s) should appear only on an accompanying cover sheet. Contact information should include mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. In addition to this cover sheet, all manuscripts submitted for consideration should also include an abstract of between 75 to 150 words summarizing the article’s major points, and four to six keywords for indexing purposes.

6. Manuscripts will be acknowledged upon receipt via e-mail. A review of the manuscript is carried out as swiftly as possible. Once a decision for publication, whether accepted or rejected, is made, the corresponding author is notified by e-mail.

7. All conflicts of interest must be declared by all prospective contributors in the Acknowledgement section of the article. Conflicts of interest include any personal or professional affiliation, any financial interests, and/or any past, present or anticipated activities that may compromise the quality or objectivity of the manuscript.

8. It publishes unpublished original research articles and the Malay translation of any related published article in other languages.

9. The contributor must submit a soft copy of the article and it is not returnable, whether it is accepted for publication or not.

10. All contributions must have a brief English and Malay abstract of about 200 words, together with the Malay and English keywords of not more than 10 words. It also required a list of bibliographies. For non-Malay writers, the journal will translate their abstract into Malay.

11. The methodology of writing must be academic writing and the footnote must be written properly.

12. The transliteration must be properly written based on the method used by the journal.

13. All articles submitted to ALFALAH will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. Articles deemed suitable are then sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers in the field

ENDNOTES

Each manuscript should use only an endnote system, an in-text note. The endnote should follow the 2020 APA Style

TRANSLITERATION

Each manuscript should use Transliteration in the Romanisation of Arabic words. The transliteration should follow the Romanisation style of the American Library Association - Library of Congress or ALA-LC Romanisation Tables (http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/roman.html;http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/romanization/arabic.pdf).

REFERENCES

References of each manuscript should follow the APA STYLE

References should be noted in alphabetical order A-Z and not numbered, typed in single-spaced, using Times New Roman font 12, and placed it at the end of the manuscript. The author must also provide references in English if the manuscript is written in the Arabic language. The references should also follow the 2020 APA Style.

AUTHOR’S BIOGRAPHY

The author should give his/her short profile including his/her name, academic achievements, affiliations to professional bodies, and working experience within 100 words at the end of the manuscript. This author’s biography should be typed and single-spaced and placed below the references under the heading BIOGRAPHY.

BIOGRAPHY

  • Muhammad Hassan Abdul Karim obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Malaya in 1986 in Philosophy of Religion. Currently, he is a lecturer at the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. His research areas include the philosophy of religion, comparative religion, and psychology of religion. He has published a number of papers related to these areas.  He is also an affiliate member of BRISMES since 1990.
