Abstract

In building sector; number of layers and type of glazing material as well as the embedded shading selection could contribute differently towards the internal heat gain which later impacted directly towards the cooling need within a building.A typical residential building in equatorial climate is modelled using Building Information Modelling (BIM). The impact of glazing system is examined by selecting a-double layer and a-triple layer glazing material. In addition, the contribution of shading surrounded the façade elements of a building is analysed. Six windows and three doors are design within a 206.45m2residential building. The set of building parameters selected has been analyse accordingly.  For instance, a reduction of 42% to 45% was achieved when a double and triple glazing material façade are supported by a shading devices. In general, an estimated of 50% from the monthly energy cost could be achieve with these combinations.  In parallel with the energy consumption reduction and energy cost saving, this combination allows a reduction of 2.1% on the yearly carbon emission by building. The research provides significant information which could be used for both new building design as well as for a retrofitting purposes.
