Abstract

This study was aimed at investigating several dimensions influencing integration of personality among undergraduates in the Faculty of Education at Mara University of Technology Malaysia (UiTM). This study used path analysis technique by developing and testing the measurement of personality integration, attitude to following group, autonomy, positive self assessment, perception of reality and control of environment among university students. Then, a complete a priori model of personality integration was designed based on a theory and literature review to clarify the relationship between selected variables. The a priori model was suggested to test whether the the selected constructs have a good fit and can represent the research data. All the six constructs were found in a set of measurement instrument adapted from the Mental Health Inventory (MHI) administered to 420 undergraduates. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was carried out to determine the best constructs to represent the latent variables being studied. It was found that in the CFA analysis the measurement model had a moderate fit and could represent the research data. This was because the values of GFI, AGFI, CFI were between 0.60 and 0.80 while RMSEA exceeded 0.06 and was below 0.10. Furthermore, the complete a priori model of modification of personality integration also fit with the empirical data with a value of GFI= 0.998, AGFI= 0.957, CFI= 0.998 and RMSEA= 0.061. The findings showed that the level of mental health among undergraduates at UiTM in Malaysia was weak.
