Abstract

Module development appears to be the current research trend in Malaysia. However, such modules are directly administered to the users without much consideration in terms of the quality of the module. The judgement of the quality of a module can be based on certain quality indicators. Therefore, specific instruments are necessary to assess the quality of a module. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of an instrument (named PKModul) used to assess the quality of a teaching module. The development of the PKModul instrument was guided by protocols from the American Psychological Association (2014). This PKModul instrument had been tested on 148 respondents throughout Peninsular Malaysia to determine the construct validity, internal consistency and stability of the instrument. The findings after exploratory factor analysis generated three factors with loading factors ranged between 0.414 - 0.749. These three factors constitute the quality indicators of the PKModul and have been named as 'quality of content', 'potential effectiveness' and 'overall satisfaction'. In sum, PKModul contains 46 items and is presented in the form of four level Likert scale. Internal consistency for PKModul was obtained at α = 0.96, and the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.95. The empirical results indicated that PKModul is consistent and stable, and can be used as an instrument to assess the quality of a teaching module based on the constructs of content quality, potential effectiveness and overall satisfaction of the module.
