THE REALITY OF THE PROBLEMS OF YOUTH HOMELESSNESS: A CASE STUDY IN CHOW KIT, KUALA LUMPUR

Abstract

Analysis of the reality of the problems faced by youth homeless is one of the contributors to give further understanding of the reasons why youth homeless are still trapped in homelessness. By doing the analysis, good advocating and intervention can be planned in order to help this marginalized group to be empowered and, finally, help them to exit this vagabond lifestyle. From this paper, the result based on in-depth interviews with 22 youth homeless in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, they have to face problems involved problems based on the social aspect (discrimination or social stigma and persecution of street violence) and structural aspect (documentation lost and arrested by the authorities). This qualitative paper hopefully will be indirect as a medium for youth homeless to voice out the obstacle they have to face, and hopefully, the problems of homelessness can be resolved gradually.
