Abstract

This aim of this survey study was to identify the teacher's capacity building in a secondary school. The sample of this study is consisted of 64 secondary school teachers. The study identified the sample's view on the principal practice on teacher's capacity building in the school from three dimensions. Besides that, a comparison between the principal's leadership practice and an ideal leadership practice was also addressed. A set of questionnaire containing 35 items is used as a research instrument to collect quantitative data from the sample. Results indicated that the principal leadership practices have moderate mean scores in the three teacher's capacity building dimensions. Besides that, the mean score of the principal leadership practice was lower than the ideal leadership practice for all of the three teacher's capacity building dimensions. Thus it can be concluded that the current principal leadership practice from the dimension of teacher's capacity building is still far from what was required and expected by the school teachers. The implications of the study and recommendations for future study were also presented.
