Abstract

This study seeks to investigate the effect of carbon accounting on food security
in Sub-Saharan African nations. This study employs an ex-post facto research design,
with secondary data obtained from several sources for 14 out of 48 Sub-Saharan African
nations, spanning the years 2001 to 2019. The data were analysed using descriptive
(descriptive statistics and correlation) and inferential (Panel GMM) statistics. The
empirical evidence revealed that carbon emissions exerted a positive but insignificant
effect on the food security of Sub-Saharan African nations. Also, environmental tax
exerted a negative but insignificant effect on the food security of these countries. The
study recommends that appropriate legislative measures and policies should be put in
place to ensure environmentally friendly practices in the selected Sub-Saharan Africa
countries.
