Abstract

Today, some people may have lost the traditional thoughts of filial piety, and some may not practise traditional filial behaviour due to various reasons or facing untenable pressures. Is the ideology of traditional filial piety not timely? Or is it too rigorous due to its exertion? These need to be studied. This study will analyse the modern significance of Pre-Qin Confucian filial piety ideology from the truth of Heavenly and humanity points of view. The scope of this study is based on three aspects of filial piety in Pre-Qin Confucian, which include supporting the parents, advising the parents and not being disobedient to parents. The findings conclude that Pre-Qin Confucian filial piety ideology has fulfilled the truth of Heavenly and humanity. This ideology is suitable to be used as references and reflections in the practice of filial piety in modern times. The Pre-Qin Confucian filial thought may seem like an esoteric philosophy of life, but in fact it is practical, and hence filial piety ideology of Pre-Qin Confucian can become strong foundation for moral cultivation.
