Abstract

This review of Catherine Wihtol de Wenden’s Migration and International Relations examines the transformative role of human mobility in global diplomacy, with a specific focus on the burgeoning phenomenon of South-South migration. While the text explores the Euro-Mediterranean context, it provides critical data revealing that migration within the Global South now equals South-North flows. The analysis highlights how Southern nations leverage migration diplomacy and remittances to assert geopolitical agency. Ultimately, the review argues that the book exposes a structural disconnect between Northern security-centric policies and the socio-economic realities of the South, necessitating a paradigm shift in global migration governance.
