Peer Review Policy

All manuscripts submitted to the Malaysian Journal of International Relations (MJIR) undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure academic quality, originality, and relevance. Submissions are first screened by the Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Board to assess their suitability, originality, and compliance with the journal’s scope and guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be desk rejected.

Manuscripts passing the initial screening are reviewed by at least two independent expert reviewers. Reviewers evaluate submissions based on originality, theoretical and methodological rigor, quality of analysis, engagement with relevant literature, and clarity of presentation. The peer review process typically takes three to six months from the date of submission.

Editorial decisions are based on reviewers’ recommendations and fall into one of the following categories: accept, accept with minor revisions, revise and resubmit, or reject. Authors receive anonymized reviewer comments through the journal’s submission system.

All manuscripts are treated as confidential. Reviewers are required to declare any conflicts of interest and adhere to ethical standards. MJIR may conduct plagiarism and originality checks at any stage of the review process. The final decision on all submissions rests with the Editor-in-Chief.
