Abstract

The phenomenon of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is increasingly prevalent among older adults due to greater exposure to digital technology, particularly social media. Feelings of being left behind, disconnected, or out of touch with current developments may trigger anxiety and emotional distress within this demographic. In this context, the Islamic psychospiritual approach is viewed as an effective and holistic alternative in alleviating emerging psychological effects. This article examines the dimensions of Islamic psychospirituality based on one’s direct relationship with Allah SWT through faith and outward religious practices as therapeutic elements for emotional imbalance and spiritual emptiness. The study adopts a qualitative approach through content analysis of authoritative sources and scholarly opinions. Supporting data from previous studies and literature on the psychological well-being of older adults are also incorporated. The findings indicate that the strength of spiritual faith and religious practices, complemented by social support, can stabilise emotions and reduce FOMO-related stress among older adults, particularly those with limited social support or low engagement in the digital sphere. This article suggests that psychospiritual approaches should serve as a foundational framework in developing well-being modules for older adults, in alignment with Islamic values and the challenges of the contemporary digital age.
