Artificial Intelligence Policy
1. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools and Large Language Models (LLMs) must be used responsibly and in accordance with JML’s Ethics and Malpractice Statements.
2. Authors must not use AI tools to fabricate, simulate, or manipulate research data, statistical findings, or experimental results. Likewise, the generation of visual materials such as images, diagrams, figures, or data visualizations using AI is not allowed.
3. Upon submission, the use of GenAI tools and/or LLMs as a whole or in part must be disclosed in the cover letter or as comments to the Editor with the original source of the GenAI tools or LLMs clearly stated.
4. The use of these tools must be declared in the manuscript in the Methodology section or after the Acknowledgements sections:
Declaration of the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process
We, the authors, declare that we used [name and version of the tool/technology] to [e.g., enhance the readability of the manuscript]. We have checked and verified all content generated and take full responsibility for the contents of the manuscript.
5. Authors are responsible and accountable for the contents of their work, and thus, in cases of non-disclosure of the use of GenAI tools and LLMs or their inappropriate use (e.g., used to fabricate or manipulate data and findings, or the generation of visual materials), editors reserve the right to reject the submission at any point of the publishing process.
1. Peer reviewers should not use GenAI tools or LLMs to summarise and review unpublished manuscripts assigned to them.
2. JML reserves the right to take appropriate action against reviewers who breach this policy.
3. If reviewers detect or suspect undisclosed or inappropriate use of GenAI tools or LLMs in a manuscript they are reviewing, they should promptly inform the Editors.
For Associate Editors
1. Associate editors should not use GenAI tools to summarise and review unpublished manuscripts assigned to them.
2. JML reserves the right to take appropriate action against associate editors who breach this policy.
3. In cases where non-disclosure or inappropriate use of GenAI tools or LLMs is reported or suspected, the Associate Editor should consult the Chief Editor to determine the status of the submission at any point of the publishing process.
