Roles and Responsibilities
Chief Editor
1. Sets the overall direction of the journal.
2. Manages the appointments of Associate Editors, International Editorial Board, Journal Managers and proofreaders.
3. Oversees the processes and procedures from submission to publication are observed, including the
- use of the journal's system to conduct the review process.
- assignment of manuscripts to reviewers who have relevant knowledge and skills to review them.
- monitoring of the quality and process of the reviews and manuscripts.
- making of final decisions about the acceptance of papers.
4. Ensures that the journal adheres to ethical policies for scholarly publishing.
5. Identifies potential contributors and peer reviewers.
6. Seeks opportunities for thematic issues.
7. Obtains feedback from the Editorial Team to continuously improve the quality of the journal.
8. Oversees the content on the journal’s webpage and the promotion of the journal.
Associate Editors
1. Assist the Chief Editor to ensure that processes and procedures from submission to publication are observed.
2. Ensure that the journal’s ethical policies for scholarly publishing are observed.
3. Identify potential contributors and peer reviewers.
4. Seek opportunities for thematic issues.
5. Manage submissions assigned to them by the Chief Editor.
6. Take over the duties of the Chief Editor when required.
International Editorial Board
1. Advises on the direction for the journal.
2. Evaluates the quality of the journal periodically.
3. Identifies new topics for thematic issues.
4. Helps to identify potential contributors and peer reviewers.
5. Encourages colleagues and postgraduate students to submit their manuscripts to the journal.
6. Promotes the journal to related academic communities.
Journal Managers
1. Check that all new submissions adhere to the submission guidelines provided.
2. Put all new submissions through plagiarism detection software and alert the Chief Editor / Associate Editor of new submissions with the similarity report.
3. Monitor the timely submission of reviews and revised manuscripts (if any).
4. Communicate with authors, reviewers, editors and other parties.
5. Manage the assignment of proofreading.
6. Prepare manuscripts and issue for publication including applying for DOIs.
7. Assist the Chief Editor with website maintenance.
8. Coordinate Editorial Team’s meetings.
Guest Editors
1. Propose a thematic issue to the Chief Editor.
2. Source for original submissions for the issue.
3. Ensure that submissions go through the double blind review process.
4. Adhere to JML's processes and procedures from submission to publication.
6. Write an Editorial for the thematic issue.
Peer Reviewers
Consistent with COPE’s ethical guidelines, Peer Reviewers should
1. declare any competing interest with a manuscript assigned to them.
2. maintain confidentiality at all times during the submission process as JML observes a double-blind peer review process.
3. provide unbiased and constructive feedback on a manuscript to assist decision making on the Editors part.
4. report concerns about a manuscript (e.g. plagiarism and/or undisclosed or inappropriate use of GenAI and/or LLM) to the Associate Editor in charge / Chief Editor.
5. adhere to the deadline given for a review.
