Abstract

Research on teacher knowledge is growing rapidly around the world, including Malaysia. Hence there is a need to analyse previous studies on teacher knowledge that has been undertaken to identify the patterns and the research gaps that exist in the field. The study systematically analysed articles related to teacher knowledge in Malaysia from 2008 to 2017. The findings from the analysis show that most previous studies on knowledge of mathematics teachers in Malaysia focus on identifying the level of knowledge competence. In addition, pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) is the type of knowledge that is often studied. The findings also show that the qualitative research approach is often used, of which the case study design is the most preferred choice of researchers. The mathematical topics predominantly focused upon by previous researchers are Fractions and Algebra. The findings of this study can be used as a reference for researchers in the field of mathematics education who carry out studies related to teacher knowledge. This article also provides suggestions for further studies related to the knowledge of mathematics teachers.
