Abstract

The study is aimed at exploring the impact of changes in National Standard Preschool Curriculum (NSPC) of Malaysia on preschool teachers. The curriculum has been implemented since 2017 for all preschools under Ministry of Education (MOE.) For this study, in-depth interviews with selected preschool teachers, observations, and analysis of documents were conducted to gain insightful data. The Preschool teachers and documents/ memorabilia are the main sources of data collection. Observations during the survey were conducted and analysis of documents was conducted to support the interviews. The interviews have been transcripted in verbatim and conclusions were made based on analysis of the themes. The findings show the attitude of teachers is either optimistic or pessimist on the implementation of the revised KSPK 2017. Also, the absence of clear information for standard assessment of students, lack of teaching aids, has increased the burden and misconceptions of an effective implementation of the revised curriculum. In short, the findings of this study serve as stepping stone to further investigate on preschool teacher practices of the newly revised KSPK. The findings suggest related parties to prepare early intervention service to resolve arising issues and provide collaborative support to preschool teachers in executing the new revised curriculum.
