Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the effect of principal encouragement towards teachers' commitment in decision-making in low achievers Secondary School (SMK) in Kedah. This study used a survey method to collect the data. This research samples consists of 273 teachers selected randomly. The questionnaire consists of 40 items and has high reliability (α = 0.94). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The research shows that the level of principal encouragement in decision-making is at high level and the level of commitment teachers is at moderate. Regression analysis showed that principal encouragement has significant effects on the commitment of teachers in low achievers school. This clearly illustrates that teachers in lower achievers school show a high commitment when they got encouragement from the principal to be involved in the decision making process. Therefore, they need to emphasize the improvement of encouragement from principals in order to increase the level of teachers’ commitment.
