Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Authors
1. Authors who choose to use Generative Artificial Intelligence tools must do so responsibly and in accordance with the journal’s policies on publication ethics.
2. Any use of Generative AI tools must be clearly and transparently acknowledged within the submitted manuscript. The disclosure statement must include the full name of the tool used, the version number, the manner in which the tool was used, and the purpose for its use.
3. For article submissions, this disclosure must be included in the Methods or Acknowledgments section. This level of transparency enables editors to assess whether Generative AI tools have been used appropriately and responsibly. The Malaysian Journal of Tropical Geography (MJTG) retains full discretion over the publication of submitted work and will ensure that editorial integrity and ethical guidelines are upheld.

Editors
1. Editors are responsible for maintaining the quality, integrity, and confidentiality of the editorial and peer-review process.
2. The use of unpublished manuscripts in Generative AI systems may pose risks related to confidentiality, intellectual property, and proprietary rights. Accordingly, editors must not upload unpublished manuscripts, including associated files, images, or supplementary materials, into any Generative AI tools.
3. Editors should consult the Editor-in-Chief prior to using any Generative AI tools, unless prior authorization for the specific tool and its intended use has already been granted.

Peer Reviewers
1. Peer reviewers are selected experts in their respective fields and must not use Generative AI tools to analyse, interpret, or summarize submitted manuscripts or any portion thereof when preparing their reviews.
2. Peer reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts, project proposals, or any associated files, images, or information into Generative AI tools.
3. Generative AI tools may be used solely to assist with improving the language or clarity of review reports. However, peer reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their evaluations.
