Abstract

Qira'at is a branch of al-Qur'an which was given attention by the Muslim community in Malaysia. This knowledge has led to a renewed interest in the community to study the Qur'an in general. This paper examines the relationship between motivation and level of reading al-Sab'ie qira'at among students in special classes of reading and memorization of the Quran (KKQ) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) in Perak. This study used a quantitative approach using questionnaires and syafawi tests. A total of 308 respondents participated, representing all regions of the Perak state. The findings showed that respondents' intrinsic motivation were at high level (min = 4.01, sd = 0.77), and extrinsic motivation of respondents were at moderate level (min = 3.15, sd = 1.11). The overall level of students' motivation were at a moderate level (min = 3.58, sd = 0.95). The level of the al-sab'ie qira'at is at a moderate level ground (min = 2.95). The findings also showed no significant correlation (r = 0.219) between the motivation of respondents with their reading proficiency level against al-qira'at al-Sab'ie. This suggests that the motivating factors can affect the ability of respondents, however the motivation is not the main factor perse.
