Abstract

Artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing how educational content is developed, delivered and assessed. Within this changing environment, teachers require not only familiarity with emerging technologies but also the pedagogical knowledge needed to apply them responsibly. This focus formed the basis of the “AI in the Classroom” session conducted during the National Symposium 2025 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. This article examines the educational potential of artificial intelligence based on a professional development session involving 84 secondary school teachers under Program Duta Guru. It discusses how tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Gemini-powered Google Slides and Google NotebookLM can support lesson planning, assessment design, content development, document synthesis and differentiated learning. However, AI-generated outputs should be reviewed and adapted according to curriculum requirements, learning outcomes, student abilities and classroom contexts. The article emphasises that effective AI integration depends on teachers’ professional judgement, digital literacy, ethical awareness and protection of confidential information. Although AI may improve efficiency, creativity and personalisation, it cannot replace empathy, moral judgement, encouragement or meaningful teacher–student relationships. Responsible educational innovation should therefore remain pedagogically grounded and human-centred, with AI serving as a support mechanism rather than a replacement for educators.
