Abstract

The 7th International Seminar on al-Quran and al-Sunnah in Contemporary Society (SQ2026), organised by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), was held on 13–14 June 2026 at Hotel Langkasuka, Langkawi. The seminar brought together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to discuss the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing Islamic education and the development of a knowledge-based Masyarakat MADANI. Representing the Centre of Quranic Research (CQR), Universiti Malaya, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Jamilah Raja Yusof delivered a keynote address entitled "Integrasi Kecerdasan Buatan dengan Sistem Pengetahuan al-Quran ke Arah Pembentukan Masyarakat Madani." The keynote explored how Generative AI, together with no-code and low-code technologies, is democratizing the development of Qur'anic knowledge systems, enabling educators, Islamic institutions, and community organisations to create digital platforms such as chatbots, learning applications, and knowledge portals with greater accessibility. The presentation also highlighted the importance of quality assurance and validation to ensure the accuracy and authenticity of AI-assisted Islamic content. In addition, participants were encouraged to reflect on the sustainability of modern AI by comparing the substantial computational resources required by large-scale AI systems with emerging research on more efficient and human-inspired approaches to artificial intelligence. The keynote underscored the potential of responsible AI to strengthen Islamic scholarship while fostering an inclusive, ethical, and sustainable digital ecosystem.
