Wilayah:The International Journal of East Asian Studies is a peer-reviewed international academic journal committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. The journal seeks to ensure that all published works meet ethical standards in scholarly publishing. All parties involved in the publication process — including editors, editorial board members, reviewers, and authors — are expected to adhere to the following ethical principles and standards. The publication ethics and malpractice policies of the journal is guided by the principles and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Editor’s Responsibilities
· Editors shall evaluate submitted manuscripts solely on the basis of academic merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the scope of the journal, without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.
· Editors must ensure a fair, objective, and confidential peer-review process for all submissions.
· Editors shall not disclose any information regarding submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher where appropriate.
· Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without written consent from the author.
· Editors are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the academic record and shall take appropriate action when ethical concerns or complaints are raised regarding a submitted or published manuscript.
· Editors shall make publication decisions based on the recommendations of reviewers, the significance of the work, and the journal’s editorial policies.
Editorial Board Responsibilities
· The Editorial Board is responsible for supporting the editor in maintaining the academic quality and integrity of the journal.
· Editorial Board members shall ensure that all information relating to submitted manuscripts remains confidential.
· Editorial Board members must not use unpublished information obtained through the editorial process for personal advantage.
· The Editorial Board shall assist in investigating allegations of research misconduct, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or unethical research practices.
· The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject manuscripts that fail to comply with the journal’s ethical standards or publication requirements.
Reviewer’s Responsibilities
· Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
· Reviews should be conducted objectively, professionally, and constructively. Personal criticisms are to be avoided.
· Reviewers should provide clear comments and recommendations supported by scholarly arguments or evidence.
· Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest relating to the manuscript, authors, or research funding and decline the review where such conflicts exist.
· Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the author.
· Reviewers should inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published works.
· Reviewers who are unable to complete the review within the stipulated timeframe should promptly inform the editor.
Author’s Responsibilities
· Authors must ensure that their submitted work is original and has not been plagiarised. Plagiarism in all forms constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.
· Authors must ensure that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere as simultaneous submission to more than one journal is considered unethical.
· Authors should present an accurate account of the research and provide sufficient references to permit replication where applicable.
· Authorship and co-authors should have made significant scholarly contributions to the research, writing, or interpretation of the study.
· All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission.
· Authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that may influence the results of their manuscript.
· If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a submitted or published work, the author must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article where necessary.
Plagiarism and Research Misconduct
· Wilayah: The International Journal of East Asian Studies takes all forms of publication misconduct seriously, including plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, and unethical research practices.
· Manuscripts found to violate ethical standards may be rejected, retracted, or subject to further investigation.
· The journal will utilise plagiarism detection software to evaluate submitted manuscripts.

Submission of a manuscript to the WILAYAH implies that the submitted work has not been published before (except as part of a thesis or report, or abstract); that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors. The WILAYAH : International Journal of East Asian Studies adopts CC BY license. As such, we would be grateful if the republication is accompanied by an acknowledgement that the work was originally published in WILAYAH. The editors will ensure digital preservation of access to the journal content by the Journal depository section.
