Students’ attitudes in performing the obligatory prayers (ṣalāt al-farḍ) are closely related to their impact on character formation. This study has three main objectives: to examine the level of understanding of obligatory prayer and its relationship with attitudes and practices based on gender; to identify the contributing factors to character development through the practice of obligatory prayer; and to analyze the relationship between students’ attitudes toward prayer and their character, as well as its effect on character formation. To achieve these objectives, the study was conducted on 100 respondents comprising newly enrolled full-time undergraduate students at UiTM Kelantan, Kota Bharu campus. The research employed a quantitative approach, utilizing descriptive analysis to obtain mean scores and percentages, as well as inferential analysis (t-test and Pearson correlation). The data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0. The findings indicate that respondents demonstrated a satisfactory understanding of the obligation of performing the obligatory prayers, with a mean score of 4.75. However, students’ attitudes in consistently performing the obligatory prayers were found to be less satisfactory. Based on the findings, it is recommended that university management place greater emphasis on the performance of prayer and enhance students’ awareness of its importance.
