Integrative Concept And Approaches In National Education And Islamic Education

Abstract

Islamic integrated education was introduced by Muslim scholars since the Abbasiah Caliphate (750M-1258M). They promoted the same terminology i.e. integrated,  integration, integral and integrative. In fact, national schools and Madrasah Indonesia use the same curriculum. However, national schools does not focus on Islamic education. Therefore, Madrasah plays an important role in disseminating islamic education. This article scrutinizes the concept and approaches of integrated islamic education in Indonesia. The qualitative research uses three methods of data collection which are documentation, interview and observation. Findings show that the concept and approaches in the integrated education will intertwine revealed and required knowledge. The application of the notion through a system of ‘Surat Keputusan Bersama Tiga Menteri’. Educationist suggest various approaches in the implementation. Firstly, an amalgamation. Secondly, an islamization of required knowledge. Thirdly, a combination of 50% revealed knowledge and 50% required knowledge. In conclusion, this article propose the third to be the future syllabus of national education in Indonesia in line with indonesians aiming for balanced national education and islamic education.
