Copyright Notice

Upon acceptance and publication of a manuscript in the Online Journal of Research in Islamic Studies (RIS), authors agree to transfer copyright of the published work to the journal. This enables RIS to disseminate, archive, and protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

Notwithstanding this transfer, authors retain broad rights to reuse and share their work. Authors may republish their article or authorize others to do so, provided that appropriate acknowledgment is given stating that the work was originally published in the Online Journal of Research in Islamic Studies (RIS).

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) licence. Under this licence, authors and readers may share, distribute, and reproduce the article in any non-commercial medium, including academic repositories, personal websites, and non-commercial social media platforms, immediately upon publication, provided proper citation of the original source is included.

Authors are also permitted to freely use and disseminate the abstract and bibliographic information of their article (including title, author names, and publication details) in any context, including academic profiles, institutional repositories, personal websites, blogs, and social media platforms. Where possible, a link to the article on the RIS website should be provided.

This policy ensures both the protection of the published work and the wide dissemination of scholarly knowledge in accordance with open-access principles.

 

Author Rights and Self-Archiving Policy

The Online Journal of Research in Islamic Studies (RIS) supports the broad dissemination of scholarly work while preserving the integrity of the published record.

Although copyright of published articles is held by RIS, authors retain significant rights to reuse and share their work in accordance with the journal’s open-access framework and licensing terms.

Author Rights

Authors are permitted to:

  • Reuse their article in future scholarly works (e.g., books, chapters, theses, or teaching materials)

  • Share the published version of the article with colleagues and students

  • Deposit and disseminate the article in institutional or subject repositories

  • Post the article on personal or institutional websites

  • Share the article through non-commercial academic networks or social media platforms

In all cases, the original publication in RIS must be properly acknowledged.

Self-Archiving (Green Open Access)

RIS allows immediate self-archiving of the published version (Version of Record) of the article without embargo. Authors may deposit their work in:

  • Institutional repositories

  • Non-commercial subject repositories

  • Personal academic webpages

  • University websites

  • Non-commercial scholarly platforms

The following conditions apply:

  1. The archived version must include full bibliographic details.

  2. A citation to the original publication in RIS must be provided.

  3. Where possible, a direct link to the article on the RIS website should be included.

  4. Use must comply with the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) licence.

Abstract and Metadata Use

Authors may freely use and distribute the article abstract and bibliographic metadata (title, authorship, publication details) in any context, including academic profiles, databases, and social media, with attribution to RIS.
