PERJUANGAN GURU-GURU MELAYU MEMARTABATKAN BAHASA KEBANGSAAN SELEPAS KEMERDEKAAN SEHINGGA 1970

Abstract

This article discussed on the Malay teacher's struggle in upholding 'bahasa Melayu' as the national language upon post independence era up to 1970. During that period, teachers apparently supported by the Federation of Malay Peninsular Malay Teachers (KPGMS) who played the main role in urging the Government to uphold bahasa Melayu accordancing with the legislation and policies that have been drafted. Hence the implementation of the Malay language as national language should follow the provisions of the policy in Malaysia's constitution. There fore, this article will examine how strong the national language is in the constitution as there were various tensions between the KPGSM and the government during those period. The study is using qualitative methods such as archival data. The finding shows that the  reaction of this teachers who are sensitive in Malay language issue has greatly awakened the government towards the national language position which is always covered by various problems.​
