Shu-fang, Traditional Chinese Elementary Education in Taiwan under Japanese Colonial Rule

Abstract

“Shu-fangâ€, traditional Chinese Elementary institution existed even after the Japanese colonial rule in Taiwan. This paper attempts to explain what “Shufang†is and how it developed. Also its transformation and its eventual abolishment is described. Lastly, the possibility of the exstence of unauthorised “Shu-fang†is considered.
