Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • MAKE A SUBMISSION - The manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
  • Author(s) are ONLY ALLOWED submit manuscript via email to: quranica@um.edu.my
  • Submission of the final manuscript indicates that it is in its final form. Any deviation from the guidelines may cause publication delays.
  • The manuscript must:
    • Not have been previously published.
    • Not be under consideration elsewhere.
    • Be accompanied by a declaration confirming this status.
  • MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
    1. File Format
    Manuscripts must be submitted in one of the following formats only:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Submissions in other formats will not be accepted.
  • 2. Formatting Requirements
    Authors must strictly adhere to the following formatting standards.
    2.1 Text Formatting
    • The manuscript must be single-spaced throughout.
    • Italics should be used instead of underlining (except for URLs).

    2.2 Font Type and Size
    • English and Malay manuscripts: 12-point Times New Roman
    • Arabic manuscripts: 16-point Traditional Arabic

    2.3 Tables, Figures, and Illustrations
    All tables, figures, and illustrations must:
    • Be embedded within the main text at appropriate points.
    • Not be placed at the end of the manuscript
    • Comply with APA 7th edition formatting guidelines
  • 3. Style Guide
    All manuscripts must strictly follow the APA 7th edition style for:
    • Formatting
    • Citations
    • References
    • Tables and figures.
      Non-compliance may result in the manuscript being returned for correction.
  • 4. Author Anonymity
    To ensure a double-blind peer review process:
    • Manuscripts must not contain any information that could identify the author(s).
    • Author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and correspondence details must be removed from the manuscript file.
    • A separate title page must be submitted, containing:
      • Manuscript title
      • Author name(s)
      • Institutional affiliation(s) including email
      • Corresponding author details (Only a single corresponding author is permitted for each article).
  • 5. Word Limit
    • Minimum: 6,000 words
    • Maximum: 9,000 words
      ⚠️ The word count includes references and notes.
      Manuscripts outside this range may be rejected without review.
  • 6. Abstract and Keywords
    Each manuscript must include:
    • An abstract of 150–250 words
    • 5–6 keywords

    The abstract should clearly state the:
    • Research objective
    • Methodology
    • Key findings
    • Contribution of the study
  • 7. Required Manuscript Structure
    All manuscripts must be organised as follows:

    1. Introduction
    2. Literature Review
    3. Methodology
    4. Analysis and Discussion
    5. Conclusion
    6. References
  • 8. Language-Specific Requirements
    8.1 Arabic-Language Manuscripts
    For manuscripts written in Arabic:
    • The title, author affiliations, abstract, and keywords must be provided in both Arabic and English.

    8.2 Malay-Language Manuscripts
    For manuscripts written in Malay:
    • The title, abstract, and keywords must be provided in both Malay and English.

    8.3 Qur’anic Verses
    For Malay- and English-language manuscripts:
    • Qur’anic verses must be presented in Arabic script, followed by an authentic Malay and English translation (according to the article written).
  • 9. References and Citations
    • All references must follow APA 7th edition guidelines.
    • In-text citations only are permitted
    • DOIs or URLs must be provided for all references in accordance with APA 7th edition requirements.
    • Footnote citations are not allowed, except as specified for Hadith references.

  • 10. Hadith References
    For Hadith citations:
    • The Hadith number must be included in the in-text citation.
    • The Hadith source must be transliterated.
    • Formatting must comply with APA 7th edition standards.
  • 11. Transliteration
    • All references for Arabic-language manuscripts must be transliterated into English alphabets.
    • Authors must follow the official transliteration system provided by the journal.

  • 13. Publication Fees
    • The publication fee for the corresponding author is RM 1,200 (USD 300).
    • This fee applies regardless of whether the author’s institution is based in Malaysia or abroad.

  • Final Reminder to Authors

    Failure to comply with these Author Guidelines may result in:
    • The manuscript being returned for correction, or
    • Rejection without entering the peer review process.
      Authors are strongly encouraged to review each section carefully before submission.

Author Guidelines

Additional Authors' Guidelines:

  • Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has neither been published previously nor been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere.
  • For Book Review submission, the manuscript should be no more than 1800 words.
  • Researchers must focus on recent publications in Quranic studies.
  • The copyright form must be submitted as a signed scanned copy to: quranica@um.edu.my. The form can be downloaded here.
  • Author(s) ONLY ALLOW to send their manuscript in Microsoft Word layout through email to: quranica@um.edu.my
