 Instruction for Authors (QURANICA)

 

Author’s Guidelines

As part of the submission process, authors are required to ensure full compliance with the following guidelines.
Submissions that do not adhere to these requirements may be returned to authors without review.

Submission of a manuscript implies that the manuscript is in its final form. Failure to follow these instructions may result in publication delays or rejection.

  1. Submission Policy
  • Manuscripts submitted to QURANICA must be original works.
  • Submissions must not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  • Authors are required to provide a declaration stating that the manuscript:
    • Has not been published previously, and
    • Is not under consideration by another journal.
  1. Submission Method
  • Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word.
  • All submissions should be sent via email to: quranica@um.edu.my
  1. Manuscript Formatting

           Authors must strictly follow the formatting requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines:

  • Spacing: Single-spaced throughout
  • Font:
    • English & Malay manuscripts: 12-point Times New Roman
    • Arabic manuscripts: 16-point Traditional Arabic
  • Italics must be used instead of underlining (except for URLs).
  • All tables, figures, and illustrations must be embedded within the text at appropriate points (APA 7th edition).
  1. Style and Referencing
  • All manuscripts must comply with APA 7th edition style guidelines.
  • In-text citations only are permitted.
  • Footnote citations are not allowed, except for Hadith references.
  • Where available, DOIs or URLs must be provided for all references.
  1. Hadith and Qur’anic Citation
  • Qur’anic verses must be written in Arabic script, followed by an authentic English translation (for English-language manuscripts).
  • Hadith references must:
    • Include the Hadith number in the in-text citation
    • Be transliterated
    • Follow APA 7th edition formatting standards
  1. Manuscript Length and Structure
  • Word limit:
    • Minimum: 6,000 words
    • Maximum: 9,000 words
      (including references and notes)
  • Each manuscript must include:
  1. Author Anonymity

           To ensure a double-blind peer review process:

  • Manuscripts must not contain any information that may identify the author(s).
  • A separate title page must be submitted, containing:
    • Manuscript title
    • Author name(s)
    • Institutional affiliation(s)
    • Corresponding author details
  1. Transliteration
  • All references for Arabic-language manuscripts must be transliterated into English alphabets.
  • Authors must follow the official transliteration system adopted by the journal.

  1. Book Review Submissions
  • Book reviews must not exceed 1,800 words.
  • Submissions should focus on recently published works related to Qur’anic studies.
  • Book reviews are subject to editorial screening.
  1. Copyright
  • Authors are required to submit a signed copyright form upon acceptance.
  • The copyright form must be submitted as a scanned copy to:
    quranica@um.edu.my
  • The copyright form can be downloaded here.
  1. Publication Fee
  • The publication fee for the corresponding author is RM 1,200 (USD 300).
  • This fee applies regardless of whether the author’s institution is based in Malaysia or abroad.

FINAL NOTE TO AUTHORS

          Authors are strongly advised to read both the “Instruction for Authors” and the “Author Guidelines – Manuscript
          Preparation” pages carefully before submission.
          Failure to comply with these requirements may result in delay, revision, or rejection of the   manuscript.
