About the Journal
The International Journal of Shariah in Economics and Governance (IJSEG) (e-ISSN: XXXX-YYYY) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access, multidisciplinary scholarly journal established in 2026 and published by the Department of Shariah, Economics and Governance, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
IJSEG was established in response to the growing need for rigorous and diverse scholarly engagement with contemporary issues across Shariah, Islamic studies, economics, governance, public policy, political science, management, organisational studies, leadership, sustainability, and related fields. The journal provides an international academic platform for advancing knowledge on the intellectual, ethical, institutional, social, economic, political, and practical dimensions of governance and socio-economic development from Islamic perspectives.
As a multidisciplinary journal, IJSEG welcomes scholarship from a broad range of academic disciplines that engage with Shariah, economics, governance, management, public affairs, and related areas. The journal also encourages interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research that brings together theories, methods, perspectives, and approaches from different fields to address complex contemporary issues.
IJSEG seeks to promote high-quality research that contributes to scholarly discourse, policy development, professional practice, and institutional advancement. It encourages critical engagement with contemporary challenges affecting governments, institutions, organisations, industries, and communities, particularly in relation to governance, leadership, accountability, integrity, economic development, sustainability, innovation, digital transformation, and social change.
The journal particularly welcomes scholarship that draws upon Islamic intellectual, ethical, and normative traditions while engaging critically and constructively with contemporary theories, empirical research, methodological approaches, and policy debates. IJSEG seeks to facilitate meaningful dialogue between Islamic scholarship and diverse academic disciplines, thereby contributing to the development of knowledge that is theoretically robust, empirically informed, ethically grounded, and relevant to contemporary societies.
IJSEG welcomes original research articles, review articles, conceptual and theoretical studies, empirical research, case studies, and policy-oriented scholarship. Submissions are assessed through a rigorous double-anonymous peer-review process and are evaluated on the basis of originality, academic quality, methodological rigour, analytical depth, scholarly contribution, and relevance to the journal's scope.
The journal is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity, research ethics, publication ethics, transparency, and editorial independence in accordance with internationally recognised scholarly publishing practices.
Through its broad multidisciplinary scope, IJSEG aims to contribute to knowledge that informs policy and practice, strengthens institutions and organisations, promotes ethical and effective governance, supports sustainable socio-economic development, and addresses emerging challenges at local, regional, and global levels.
Aims and Scope
The International Journal of Shariah in Economics and Governance (IJSEG) aims to advance knowledge and critical scholarship across Shariah, economics, governance, management, public affairs, and related academic disciplines through engagement with Islamic intellectual, ethical, and normative traditions.
The journal adopts a multidisciplinary scope and welcomes research from different academic fields that contributes to the understanding of contemporary governance, economic, institutional, social, political, organisational, and developmental issues. IJSEG also welcomes interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary studies that integrate perspectives, theories, methodologies, or approaches from multiple fields.
