The International Journal of Shariah in Economics and Governance (IJSEG) (e-ISSN: XXXX-YYYY) is an international peer-reviewed open-access journal established in 2026 and published by the Department of Shariah, Economics and Governance, Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
IJSEG was founded in response to the growing need for rigorous scholarly engagement with contemporary issues at the intersection of Shariah, economics, governance, public policy, management, and sustainable development. The journal provides an academic forum for the advancement of knowledge on the intellectual, ethical, institutional, and practical dimensions of governance and socio-economic development from Islamic perspectives.
The journal seeks to promote high-quality research that contributes to both scholarly discourse and policy deliberation. It encourages critical engagement with contemporary challenges affecting governments, institutions, organisations, industries, and communities, particularly those related to governance, leadership, accountability, sustainability, economic development, and social transformation. Special attention is given to studies that draw upon Islamic intellectual traditions while engaging constructively with contemporary theoretical and empirical debates.
As an interdisciplinary journal, IJSEG welcomes original research articles, review articles, conceptual papers, and scholarly discussions that advance understanding of the role of Shariah principles and values in addressing contemporary governance and developmental concerns. The journal particularly encourages research that bridges classical Islamic scholarship and modern academic inquiry, fostering dialogue across disciplines and intellectual traditions.
All submissions are subject to a rigorous double-blind peer-review process and are assessed on the basis of originality, analytical depth, methodological rigour, scholarly contribution, and relevance to the journal's scope. IJSEG is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, publication ethics, and research excellence in accordance with internationally recognised scholarly publishing practices.
By providing a platform for innovative and impactful scholarship, IJSEG aims to contribute to the development of knowledge that informs policy, strengthens institutions, promotes ethical governance, and supports sustainable socio-economic development in diverse local and global contexts.
