Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Privacy Statement

The International Journal of Shariah in Economics and Governance (IJSEG), published by the Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya, is committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality and personal information of its authors, reviewers, editors, readers and other users of the journal website.

This Privacy Statement explains how IJSEG collects, uses, stores and protects personal information provided through the journal's website, manuscript submission and peer-review systems, and other activities associated with the publication of scholarly research.

1.      Information We Collect

IJSEG may collect personal and professional information necessary for the administration and publication of the journal. Such information may include, where applicable:

i.                    Name and title;

ii.                  Institutional affiliation and professional position;

iii.                Email address and other contact details;

iv.                ORCID iD and other scholarly identifiers;

v.                  Academic and professional biography;

vi.                Manuscript and supplementary materials submitted for consideration;

vii.              Information relating to peer review and editorial activities; and

viii.            Technical information necessary for the secure operation of the journal website and online submission system.

Users are encouraged to provide only information that is relevant and necessary for their interaction with the journal.

2.      Purpose of Collecting Personal Information

Personal information is collected and processed solely for legitimate scholarly, editorial, administrative and publishing purposes, including:

A.    Receiving and processing manuscript submissions;

B.     Communicating with authors, reviewers and editors;

C.     Administering peer review and editorial evaluation;

D.    Managing publication and production processes;

E.     Maintaining accurate author, reviewer and editorial records;

F.      Facilitating scholarly communication and research dissemination;

G.    Assigning and maintaining scholarly identifiers and publication metadata;

H.    Supporting indexing, abstracting, archiving and persistent-access services; and

I.        Maintaining the security, integrity and proper functioning of the journal website and submission system.

IJSEG does not collect personal information for purposes unrelated to the operation and scholarly activities of the journal.

3.      Confidentiality of Manuscripts and Peer Review

Manuscripts submitted to IJSEG are treated as confidential documents during the editorial and peer-review process. Access to submitted manuscripts and associated editorial materials is restricted to authorised editors, reviewers and relevant journal personnel.

Reviewer identities and review reports are handled in accordance with the journal's peer-review policy and the applicable review model. Information obtained through the peer-review process will not be disclosed to unauthorised individuals.

Editors and reviewers are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all materials received through the editorial and peer-review process.

4.      Publication of Author Information

When an article is accepted and published, certain information may become publicly available as part of the scholarly record. This may include the author's name, institutional affiliation, ORCID iD, academic biography, article correspondence details where applicable, and other publication metadata.

Such information may also be disseminated through indexing, abstracting, citation, DOI registration, repository, archiving and scholarly communication services.

Authors should therefore ensure that the personal and professional information provided to IJSEG is accurate and appropriate for public scholarly publication.

5.      Disclosure to Third Parties and Scholarly Services

IJSEG does not sell, rent or commercially exploit personal information collected through its journal operations.

Where necessary for legitimate publishing and scholarly communication purposes, relevant publication metadata and information may be transmitted to or made accessible through recognised third-party services, including DOI registration agencies, indexing and abstracting databases, scholarly repositories, research information systems, digital archives and other services that support the dissemination, preservation and discoverability of academic publications.

Only information necessary for these legitimate purposes will be disclosed.

6.      Data Security

IJSEG takes reasonable administrative, technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, misuse, loss or destruction.

Access to personal information is limited to individuals who require such information for legitimate editorial, publishing, administrative or technical purposes.

While reasonable safeguards are maintained, no electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

7.      Website and Technical Information

The IJSEG website and its online publishing platform may automatically collect limited technical information necessary for the operation, security and maintenance of the website. This may include information such as browser type, device information, IP address, access times and system-related information.

Cookies or similar technologies may be used where necessary to support website functionality, authentication, session management and security.

8.      Retention of Information

IJSEG retains personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil legitimate editorial, publishing, administrative, legal, archival and scholarly-record purposes.

Information associated with the permanent scholarly record, including published article metadata and author information, may be retained indefinitely to preserve the integrity, accessibility and traceability of the academic record.

9.      Authors, Reviewers and Editors

Individuals who register with or participate in IJSEG's editorial and peer-review processes are responsible for ensuring that the personal information they provide is accurate and up to date.

Authors, reviewers and editors should also avoid submitting unnecessary personal or confidential information belonging to other individuals unless such disclosure is necessary and appropriately authorised.

10.  Privacy of Minors

IJSEG's services are intended primarily for academic and professional users. The journal does not knowingly seek to collect personal information from minors except where such information is legitimately provided in connection with scholarly or educational activities and is handled in accordance with applicable requirements.

11.  Changes to this Privacy Statement

IJSEG may periodically revise this Privacy Statement to reflect changes in its publishing practices, technological environment, applicable requirements or scholarly communication standards.

Any revised statement will be published on this page with the applicable date of revision.
