Abstract

Al-Taysīr fī Al-Tafsīr of Imām Abū Ḥafṣ Al-Nasafī is considered one of the tafsir books that focused on listing Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir. However, the concept of this term in this tafsir book was not clear according to the author’s view, nor his stance on the occurrence of this type of semantic pluralism in the Qur’an, despite the different views and positions of scholars on the subject. In addition to the lack of clarity in his approach to dealing with Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir. Therefore, this research aims to define Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir according to the view of Imām Abū Ḥafṣ Al-Nasafī, observe his position on the occurrence of Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir in the Qur’an, identify Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir that he stipulated, and reveal the features of his approach towards dealing with Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir, through his tafsir book Al-Taysīr fī Al-Tafsīr. The research employed an inductive approach in analyzing Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir from this tafsir book, so as to define Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir as viewed by Imām Abū Ḥafṣ Al-Nasafī, perceive his position on its occurrence in the Qur’an, and examine his approach in dealing with Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir. One of the most important findings of the research is that the concept of Al-Wujūh wa Al-Naẓāʼir according to Imām Abū Ḥafṣ Al-Nasafī is more general than Al-Mushtarak Al-Lafẓī and Al-Mutawāṭi’, contrary to what some predecessors stated. Despite his confirmation on the existence of multiple meanings of a repeated word and the return of all the branched meanings to a single origin, he did not maintain to mentioning the comprehensive meaning and the connection between the original meaning and the branched meanings, as well as discovering the type of the relationship between that. His approach was distinguished by identifying the intended meaning of a word among the multiple meanings of Qur’anic usage in particular. It was also shown that he gathered among words and letters, 70 words encompassed 533 meanings.
