Abstract

本文透过马华作家张草在大众小说方面的创作历程，及其取材的文献数据源， 讨论了马华小说家在原始素材方面的局限与突围。张草在马华小说界是个异数， 他几乎投入全部的心血在创作大众小说，而不是纯文学小说。大众小说为了征服 大众读者，需要大量出奇制胜，又有所本的文献材料（以彰显作者的真才实学）， 写来不易。张草的大众小说写作，融合了中国武侠、明代历史、佛教经典、婆罗 洲民俗信仰，借由真实的史料和考据，创造出虚构的传奇世界，见证了马华作家 的一条艰辛成长之路。

This article discusses the limitations and constraints of Malaysian Chinese novelists in terms of source material through the history of Zhang Cao's creation of genre fiction and the documentary sources from which he draws his material. Zhang is an anomaly in the Mahua fiction world in that he has devoted almost all his efforts to writing genre fiction rather than purely literary fiction. In order to conquer the mass audience, genre fiction requires a great deal of surprising and original literary material (to demonstrate the author's true talent), and it is not easy to write. Zhang Cao's genre fiction is a blend of Chinese martial arts, Ming Dynasty history, Buddhist classics and
Borneo folk beliefs, with the use of authentic historical materials and evidence to create a fictionalised legendary world, which is a testament to the difficult path of growth for a Mahua write.
