The Narrative Turn in Li Zishu's Novel: Classical Novel Techniques And Visualized Narrative

Abstract

黎紫书，享誉国际的马华 70 后作家，曾经在《星洲日报》担任记者十余年。 本文拟选取黎紫书小说作为研究对象，首要原因是考虑到黎紫书是记者出身，熟 练掌握报刊、摄影等现代文化生产媒介，然而，现代化媒介语言是否对其小说创 作产生影响，值得思考。《流俗地》是 2020 年出版的小说，可谓是影视时代的当 代小说，甚至还于 2023 年成功卖出影视版权。影视时代的小说受视觉传播规律制 约，借助蒙太奇手法将生活的片段删繁就简、凝练浓缩，以意识的流动为主要动 力，完成片段的组接，作品结构即为作品的意识空间建构。蒙太奇的特点是空间 化的时间。黎紫书长篇小说《流俗地》的叙事转向，不仅受影视思维影响，更在 继承古典小说中的技巧时开拓创新。本文分析蒙太奇这个在叙事艺术中必不可少 的特征，对比蒙太奇在传统小说与现代影视中的作用与变迁，分析《流俗地》为 吸引读者注意力而形成的结构，探析其在新媒体时代，小说生存的策略得失。   关键词：黎紫书，古典小说技法，影像叙事，蒙太奇思维   Li Zishu is an internationally acclaimed post-1970s Malaysian Chinese writer who worked as a reporter for Sin Chew Daily for more than ten years. The primary reason for selecting Li Zishu's novel as the object of study in this paper is that considering that Li Zishu is a journalist by birth and is skilled in modern media of cultural production such as newspapers and photography, it is worth considering whether the language of modern media has an impact on his novel writing. Adding to the fact that LIUSUDI is a novel published in 2020, it can be considered a contemporary novel in the age of film and television, and it even managed to sell its movie and television rights in 2023. Novels in the era of film and television are governed by the law of visual communication, and with the help of montage, the fragments of life are simplified, condensed and concentrated, and the flow of consciousness is the main driving force to complete the grouping of fragments, and the structure of the work is the construction of the work's space of consciousness. Montage is characterized by spatialized time. The narrative turn of Li Zishu's long novel LIUSUDI is not only influenced by the thinking of movie and television, but also innovative in inheriting the techniques from classical novels. This paper analyzes montage, an essential feature in narrative art, compares the role and change of montage in traditional novels and modern film and television, disassociates the structure formed in LIUSUDI to attract readers' attention, and explores the strategy gained or lost to help the novel's survival in the era of new media.   Keywords: Li Zishu, classical fiction techniques, visualizing narrative, montage thinking
